Anticipating Christmas

December 3, 2007

It’s hard to believe that 2007 is nearly over and Christmas season is in full swing. I remember here in Kiev 12 years ago decorations didn’t “appear” until 25 December and trees weren’t available until then either. Well, actually they were not really trees; rather, more like long branches from large pine trees. My how times have changed!! In downtown Kiev most every store has Christmas decorations in the front window and inside you can find numerous Christmas items. Just amazing the influence the West has had on Ukraine.

So how did you mark the 1st Sunday of the advent season? What are your plans for the Christmas and New Year holidays? We’re looking forward to some folks from the states coming to celebrate New Year and Christmas with the kids at the Ark. (If you’re reading this and don’t know what the Ark is just go to www.KievStreetKids.org and you’ll soon see what it is.) Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz said, “there’s no place like home” our kids would much rather be at home with their families but that’s not possible yet. Why? Unfortunately, their families abandoned them and chose the road too often traveled here – alcoholism. Nevertheless, the kids feel at “home” at the Ark and will have a warm loving holiday season.

Maybe one day I’ll write a book about all that but for now blogging will have to do. Hope you are making warm loving holiday plans!!
