Christmas celebration at the Ark

January 11, 2008

T’was the night before Christmas…that’s how the day all began. If you can imagine organizing, planning, preparing Christmas gifts for 22 children all with different interests, sizes etc. It was a really fun time for us adults! Two years ago someone gave us 4 foot stockings for Christmas. They are perfect for “stuffing” all the gifts. Also saves us a ton of wrapping paper! On Christmas morning, after a special breakfast, the kids performed a really precious skit about the value in sharing what they have with each other. It took place in a forest and a wise girl talked with a bear, tiger, rabbit, angel and young boy. Imagine they all MEMORIZED their lines. That in itself is quite a feat!! After that skit, the girls did a song and the boys did a reindeer dance. You just had to see it! We had a team here from PA visiting and also some friends from NC. And several friends from Kiev came to share Christmas with the kids. So the kids really enjoyed their audience!! It was very encouraging for them!

After the skits and songs the kids all placed their chairs in a big circle and we passed out the stockings. Everyone waited until they were all passed out and then the rush began. They were so excited and happy! You can’t imagine the joy that filled the room! Huge smiles and excitement galore. I’ve posted several photos from that very special day – so have a look and see for yourself the bright smiles on each face.

Seeing the kids appreciate each and every gift no matter how great or small was a major blessing. They wanted to show everyone what they got and were quick to share the various candies with all who were there. They are so very giving. Sometimes it amazes me at how giving they really are considering they previously have not been given much at all. It makes me appreciate just how much I have been given in my life. Maybe next year you’d like to come over and share a very special Christmas with our kids. I guarantee it will be one that you’ll never forget! It will be a life-changing experience.

Thanks so much for the detail. It really sounds like an amazing time. I was definitely humbled by how generous the kids were too. I’m so glad everyone had a wonderful holiday.
