On the road…

February 22, 2008

As I sit in the land of opulence and reflect back on life in Ukraine, my mind somehow loses it’s grip on thinking.  Why I ask does that happen? The only answer I can come up with is shock. Yes, over the years Ukraine has changed a bit but it is still light years behind the west. Often I hear people talking about the ever present thumb print of communism. I beg to differ with the term “thumb print” – in my opinion it’s more like a foot print. Here in America we (I include myself since I am here now for a fund raising trip) don’t realize how truly blessed we are! It really is hard for me to get my mind around all the ‘conveniences’ that are available. Equally challenging to remember that rules of the road are to be obeyed. That is definitely not the case in Ukraine!! Rules there do exist but if you drive according to them you will surely get run off the road. So I am off to New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. And eventually back ‘home’ to Kiev where 20+ smiling faces will be waiting to greet me. Each one will want to tell me all that has happened while I was away and I look forward to that!

Zhanna our director at the Ark is keeping me updated with the happenings in Kiev. Tune in later for “News from the Ark”!
